5 Great Places to Learn Spanish in Madrid

With hundreds of language schools to choose from in the capital city, it can be overwhelming to decide which the best is for you. Dominique from Mum Abroad Life takes you through a few top places that offer flexible Spanish lessons that fit around family life.

English Escape
With childcare in English offered to parents who come along to take classes, this centre makes learning Spanish easy. Lessons are focused on providing survival Spanish to newcomers, with a crash course in basic necessities to get by as a busy Mum in a new country. The relaxed, friendly environment soothes even the most frazzled of nerves. Friends are made and the language is learnt, the joys of parenting in Madrid are shared and life as an expat Mum shows off its charm.

La Aventura Española
This language school adapts to fit around a new Mum in Madrid’s pace of life. There are classes to suit every need and every timetable. They have recently launched a special service to families re-locating to Madrid so that the children can learn Spanish at the same time as their parents, with them learning similar material so that they can practice together afterwards. They can also talk the family through the school system here and what to expect. In other words, LAE gives support in the areas that are not traditionally the business of language schools… perhaps this is because the owner is a mum and foreigner herself and knows how frustrating those first few years can be!

The classes are utterly tailor made, with each individual student’s requirements catered for. Many long-term ex-pat dwellers of Madrid like ourselves started their journey towards bilingual life at this small language school and swear by the lessons they learnt there. Several of the teachers have been with Alba Language for many years. Their experience, enthusiasm and expertise make this academy a place full of ideas and answers. Contact them for a free trial.

The best thing about Sampere is the emphasis on Spanish culture, from the basic (what does “musica bacalao” mean?) to the sublime (guided tours around museums and galleries). This language school offers intensive sessions for those who require a thorough grounding; with more relaxed classes on offer for students who are juggling language learning with a busy family or work schedule. The language school is located on a stately street in Madrid’s Salamanca district, an area full of boutiques, cafés, galleries and health & beauty salons. It is also only a stone’s throw from the Retiro Park. Speaking purely subjectively, this contributor to Mum Abroad Life would much rather take language classes in this part of town than in Sol or Gran Via!

This language school recently moved premises to a brand new location which offers the best resources to language students from all walks of life. Language learning, improvement and achievement are the name of the game. The mix of students provides a buzz to the classes. The amount of classes available means that Mums abroad have no excuse to find a slot in their schedule for Spanish classes! In Hispania also offer a broad selection of cultural activities including the chance to play sport in local teams. Where best to practice Spanish than on a tennis court or at a zumba class?
