Bavarian International School
The Bavarian International School (BIS) is an English-language IB World School for pupils aged 3-18 in Munich, Germany.
The Bavarian International School is based in the Haimhausen Schloss, a centuries old castle, which creates a very unique learning environment. The Bavarian International School was established in 1990 to offer an English language education to children from the international community in the north of Munich.
In January 2016, the BIS City Campus on Leopoldstrasse 208 in Munich opened its doors to students in Early Childhood (EC1, age 4) to Grade 5. The school’s current combined enrolment of 1090 students represents over 45 nationalities, with approximately 75 students in the graduating class.
One of only two International Baccalaureate (IB) World Schools in Germany that offers the full range of IB Programmes, BIS sends graduates to universities, specialist schools and into professional careers across the globe. In Grade 10, students choose between the IB Diploma Programme or the IB Career-related Programme, which are the focus of the last two years of education (grades 11 and 12).
In Grades 6 – 10, students progress through the IB Middle Years Programme. The German federal Kultusminister Konferenz (KMK) formally recognize equivalency between the IB Middle-Years Programme and the German Mittleren Schulabschluss (Mittlere Reife). Equivalency is also recognized between the IB Diploma Programme and the German Abitur.
The school does publish its school fees online. It asks that parents contact its Admissions Team for any queries.
The school asks that prospective parents contact its admissions team via links on its website, or join a virtual tour of the school to find out more.
Students applying for Grades 6-12 may be required to have a personal interview and to complete an online English placement test and spontaneous writing assignment. Long-distance applicants may be interviewed via a video call.
Haimhausen campus is situated in a beautiful park-like setting with fields and woods surrounding the school premises. The school is located in Haimhausen, a 30-minute drive north from Munich city centre.
