Why and when was Bee tutored founded?

Kate Prichard founded Bee Tutored in 2008 in New York City. After teaching in a classroom setting for 5 years, she recognized the need for 1:1 individual support and attention and sought out to establish a great team of academic tutors to provide bespoke supplemental reinforcement in all academic subjects K-12. 

When did the Barcelona branch open?

The Barcelona branch opened in 2010.  The Founder Kate, has lived on and off in Spain since 2000, when she participated in the School Year Abroad program in Zaragoza. As a Spanish teacher in New York, Kate spent her summers in Spain and eventually returned to live in Spain in 2009. She modeled the Barcelona branch after her success in New York. 

What services do you offer for Elementary School through High School students? 

Bee Tutored provides professional tutors for all subject areas K-12. Mostly we provide services to the bilingual and international school students who are studying most of their subjects in ENGLISH.  Tutors have the English fluency to teach their subject areas in the English language. They can be native English speakers or fluent in English. The tutoring is also available for IB Diploma students (International Baccalaureate) as well as university entrance exam prep for the United States and UK (IELTS, International English Language Testing System). Our services also include homeschooling services for student-athletes or families temporarily living in Spain. Bee Tutored has worked with the Rafa Nadal Foundation and I-Consports to provide SAT/TOEFL prep to student-athletes. 

Why might it be necessary to supplement school teaching with a tutoring service?

Bespoke Tutoring is meant to be a tool to gain extra skills in a specific subject area. It can be used to pick up the pace and/or to maintain the academic rhythm and hone in deeper on a subject area. The tutor is not a crutch but rather an enhancement to learning in a one on one session.

Can you also help with foreign language acquisition?

Absolutely! Tutors are available in English, Spanish, German and Mandarin. All levels can be provided, that’s why we offer bespoke tutoring. We can provide one-on-one assistance as well as organize small group sessions at schools or in-home.  

What type of exam preparation do you do with 16-18-year-olds?

International Baccalaureate exam prep (for the IB Diploma), TOEFL prep (English exam requirement for foreign students applying for the USA universities), SAT/ACT prep (USA University entrance exams) and any private school entrance exam prep in Spain and the US. 

Do the majority of students you support go on to study at a university outside of Spain?

50/50 on average. Depends on the year! Locally students can stay at the public or private universities in Spain. On the international level students can go to universities all throughout Europe, USA, UK, etc.

Have you seen any significant changes in education since you started with Bee Tutored?

We have seen an increase in English fluency requirements and expectations as well as competitiveness in university entrance exams for the top colleges. On the flip side, we see more and more options for all types of students as far as career paths for high school graduates. Lastly, there has been an increase in IB Diploma programs in Barcelona.
