Cañada Real Open Center

July 4, 2018 | Activities, Madrid, Spain

This is a nature park dedicated to the study and interpretation of Iberian wildlife. Situated 48km west of Madrid, near the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo, it has two lakes which provide homes to many aquatic birds. Its high population of storks make Cañada Real one of the most important reserves of these birds in the centre of the Iberian Peninsula. Cañada Real also offers a range of installations for workshops, extracurricular activities for schools and colleges, summer camps, and residential courses.

What we really liked was that you just walked around at your own pace to see the animals. Perhaps we were just lucky that there weren’t many people. Also, I spoke to the people at the information desk and they told me that they can, on request organise tours in English. (MEO)
