Château de Lassay

October 18, 2018 | Activities, France, Rennes

Lassay les Chateaux is a beautiful town in Mayenne about 120km from Rennes. It is home to a medieval fortress, a remarkable example of medieval military architecture. Other attractions of the town are the rose garden, with 300 varieties of rose, located in the former meadow of the Benedictine convent, and the medieval garden made up of four parts – green carpet, medicinal herb garden, orchard and copse. In the summer costumed re-enactments take place along side the lake and through the village.

I wouldn’t recommend this for young children but for older children Interested in history these castles are worth a visit. The guided tour is done by a man who grew up working in the Castle so knows it intimately. We were allowed to pull up the drawbridge which was a bonus. (AP)
