The Cité Scolaire Internationale de Lyon, also known as the “Lycée Internationale de Lyon” or Lycée de Gerland, is an international school located near where the Rhône and the Saône meet in the city of Lyon. The Cité Scolaire Internationale is a French state school for children from 6 to 18 years (primary school 6-11; collège 11-15; lycée 15-18). In the international primary school children follow a programme based on the established French national curriculum along with 6 hours each week in the language of their section. Children who either do not speak French or whose level is insufficient to follow the French national programme, attend ‘special’ French classes (French as a foreign language – FLE).

There are 7 separate language tracks called ‘sections’ (the Anglophone, Japanese and Polish sections are fee-paying):

• Anglophone,
• Spanish,
• German,
• Italian,
• Japanese,
• Polish,
• Portuguese.

In the Anglophone section, pupils leaving the CSI have the option to sit the Option Internationale du Baccalauréat (OIB), a bilingual diploma which is the French Baccalaureate with its additional component, the International Option. The OIB is an equivalent to a British A Level (British Option) or to Advanced Placement (American Option) and recognized by Anglophone universities worldwide. CSI students also sit the iGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) in English, as students in the UK.
