Colegio Santa Maria del Pino, Alella

The Santa Maria del Pino is a small trilingual private school, with just one class per grade.

The school follows an education model proposed in 1983 by Howard Gardner, a Harvard researcher and psychologist. More about this educational model can be found on the school’s website.

Catalan and Spanish are the school’s primary languages, but the school has recently launched an ambitious language project in which the school will progressively increase the use of English, so that it becomes a fully trilingual school. This project includes having native British teachers in Kindergarten classes. The subject of psychomotricity is in English, as well as chess and violin lessons. Throughout Primary and Secondary school, English classes are divided in small groups in order to encourage immersion and conversation Science is also taught in English.

Location

The Colegio Santa Maria del Pino is located near Alella, in the hills with a 30 minute drive from Barcelona city centre. The school consists of three interconnected buildings, surrounded by a large playground, two sports courts, a large sandy courtyard with trees, a playground with swings, slides and little houses for children, and a vineyard.
