The German Film Museum, located on Frankfurt’s riverbank explores the art and history of the moving picture, from its early beginnings to the replica studios and special effects of the today’s movie industry. As well as the permanent collection there are temporary exhibitions and lots of hands-on exhibits for curious kids. You can re-enact a car chase or take a magic carpet ride over Frankfurt with the help of a blue screen. The museum’s educational department offers guided tours through the permanent and special exhibitions to all visitors, teaching professionals, children and youth, parents and other interested parties. There is also a movie theatre, which shows all films in their original version. They also organise children’s birthday parties and summer holiday specials.

Great museum in Frankfurt that should not be missed if you have a love of film and its history. There are many activities children of all ages will enjoy from interactive antique animation devices to interactive video installations. The top floor has a blue screen where you can dress up in costume and jump in to a movie. Lots of fun! (Isabelle Walker)
