International Schools in Hamburg

 

Whether you are looking for a particular national curriculum or to enrol your children in a primarily German-speaking school with an international department, Hamburg boasts numerous excellent private bilingual and even trilingual schools to choose from. 

 

The International School of Hamburg is set in a lovely city-centre campus bordering the city’s Botanical Garden. Accredited by the Council of International Schools, ISH offers the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) for pupils from 3 to 10, followed by the IB Middle years programme (for age 11 to 16) followed by the IB Diploma Programme for students aged 17 to 19. 

 

Phorms Hamburg is a bilingual (German and English) school comprising a day care centre, preschool, primary and secondary schools. Teaching is split between both languages equally, using a total immersion method with native speaking teachers. The campus also has a state-of-the-art boarding facility in the outskirts of Hamburg.

The primary school follows the local Hamburg Curriculum, with additional teaching based on the Cambridge International Primary Programme. At secondary school, students are prepared the German Mittlerer Schulabschulss (MSA), a national examination required for entrance to Gymnasium, within the German education system. At high school, pupils prepare for the IB Diploma.

 

The Helene Lange Gymnasium is a state run middle and high school for bilingual pupils, with classes taught in English and German. The school offers the International Baccalaureate alongside the German Abitur qualification.

 

Lycée Antoine-de-Saint-Exupéry de Hambourg is a French international school in Lokstedt, for pupils from maternelle to lycée. In their final years, pupils can sit either the French Baccalaureate or the AbiBac (a combined diploma with the French Bac and German Abitur).
