El Chorro (the cascade) is a small village located in Málaga, 12 km west of Alora, along the river Guadalhorce, El Chorro is a breathtaking gorge formed by the river. Over 200 meters high with a narrow opening leading to the reservoir now formed by the dam, it is an amazing place. The gorge is famous for a walkway called Camino del Rey (King’s Pathway) which hangs 100m above the base of the gorge. The total distance to walk the new Caminito del Rey (opened in 2015) is 7.7 km. You walk from Ardales in the north to southern Álora.

This is one of the most picturesque landscapes in the province of Malaga. It is a “linear” walk so you need to get a bus back to your original starting point. There are regular buses that run between Ardales and Alora. (Mary Roulston)
