July 30, 2026 | Blog, Home & Relocation, Parenting, Wellbeing

Quinn Miller is the founder of EZPZ, a modern life insurance solution built specifically for internationally mobile families.

After more than a decade working in the expat insurance industry, and after experiencing first-hand how outdated and complicated traditional life insurance can be for families living abroad, Quinn set out to build something faster, simpler and specifically designed for expat life.

In this interview, Quinn talks through his own background and move abroad, and shares practical points for families considering life insurance while living overseas.

Meet Quinn Miller, Founder of EZPZ

From Growing Up in the US to Building a Life Abroad

I grew up in Iowa, in the Midwest of the US, and was lucky enough to do quite a bit of international travelling in my formative years, including studying abroad. So I was always attracted to the adventure of travelling and living abroad.

I graduated with a Finance Degree & Entrepreneurship certificate right during the middle of the financial meltdown of 2008, which was an excellent excuse for me to go abroad for what I thought would be a year…

Today I’m based in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam and I’ve been in Vietnam for about 15 years now. Like many people, I came to Asia with short-term plans and the next thing you know 3, 5, 10 years has gone by.

How Becoming a Father Inspired EZPZ

After becoming a father, life insurance was a no-brainer for me, especially as the sole income earner for my family.

However unlike the world of health or travel insurance, there aren’t that many truly international life insurance companies. There are a plethora of whole/universal life companies that are actually an investment product denominated in a local currency, but that wasn’t what I was after as I already have my own investment account.

I wanted a simple international term-life policy in USD that wasn’t tied to me living in Vietnam or Asia even. There were not many options and of which, they were living in the wrong decade. A simple policy took a painstaking 3+ weeks from start to finish, with entirely too much paperwork, exams and questionnaires. This was something I didn’t have time for as a new father while also running a business. With my background & tech-forward mind, the opportunity was pretty clear.

The Gap in the Market EZPZ Was Built to Fill

There are more people moving, working, living & retiring abroad than ever before. This includes families & people who are family planning, or will be in the near future. There is a serious lack of simple, straightforward term-life insurance that is truly borderless and denominated in global currencies like USD, Euros or GBP.

Why Quinn Puts His Family Front and Centre

Life insurance is about the people who rely on you. Because it inherently involves personal, sensitive conversations, trust is everything. People want to know who is on the other end of the line, and they want real advice from someone who understands their reality. Not just as an insurance expert, but as a fellow parent who has navigated the exact situation they’re in now.

Featuring my family on the site was a conscious decision to show who is behind EZPZ. In a world of faceless corporate brands, anonymous email addresses, and AI chatbots, we believe personal relationships and genuine human connection still win every time.

Understanding Life Insurance for Expat Families

When Is the Right Time to Start Thinking About Life Insurance?

Most people start looking into life insurance when they start a family, but the absolute best time to secure it is simply when you’re healthy.

Unlike expat health insurance, expat life insurance locks in your rate based on your age at entry. The longer you wait, the more expensive those base rates become, with noticeable jumps at key milestones like 45, 50, and 55.

Beyond the cost, waiting also increases the risk of developing unexpected health conditions that can throw a spanner in the works. Securing coverage early protects both your family and your wallet before any surprises arise.

How International Life Insurance Differs from Domestic Policies

In many countries, the life insurance market is dominated by domestic whole-life policies from big names like AIA, Manulife, Generali, Prudential etc. Though these are global brands, they operate as distinct local entities. Their products are designed primarily for local residents and are an investment product first, in the local currency and local regulations. They simply aren’t built with the expat lifestyle in mind.

International life insurance, on the other hand, is built specifically for global mobility. It’s pure life insurance, not an investment. It stays with you wherever life takes you, including if you moved back home, and it can pay out globally in major currencies.

A Typical EZPZ Family

EZPZ clients are not one particular type of expat or family. Our clients are a pretty wide range from career expat professionals, to people who relocate every few years, to people who are doing world schooling or online schooling for their kids while travelling the world.

Cover That Moves With You Across 180+ Countries

EZPZ policies work across more than 180 countries. In practice, that kind of flexibility means one less thing on your moving checklist.

Expat life is full of moves, job changes, and shifts in local benefits. Standard policies often force you to cancel, re-apply at an older age, or face coverage gaps every time you cross a border.

Our policies are 100% portable. You set it up once, and it moves seamlessly with you.

A Common Mistake Families Make with Expat Life Insurance

Taking the wrong policy:

  • An investment policy linked to a local currency that isn’t strong
  • A policy they don’t fully understand
  • A policy with no medical underwriting
  • A policy that doesn’t suit their expat life & flexible future plans
  • A policy that increases year-by-year, with the incremental increases getting out-of-control as they age, when they need it the most!

Applying for EZPZ: Simple, Fast, Digital

How EZPZ Simplified a Traditionally Complicated Process

One of the things that stands out about EZPZ is how straightforward the application process is. It can be done in as little as 15-20 minutes, from home and ultimately depends on someone’s lifestyle, health & any hazardous activities they may partake in.

This may exist in some Western countries, but in the international space, it’s a first for a fully medically underwritten policy. The insurance industry as whole is living in the wrong decade, except for basic things like travel insurance. This is a natural evolution of modernising the onboarding process by leveraging technology and digital underwriting.

The Roles of EZPZ, Unisure and Gen Re

Most insurance policies involve more than one company behind the scenes, but that’s rarely made clear to the person actually holding the policy.  With EZPZ, there are three names that will appear on your paperwork:

  • EZPZ is your personal advocate and interface. We don’t work for the insurance company; we work for you. We guide you through the advice, the application, and the ongoing service. We’re on your side from day one through every life milestone.
  • Unisure is our insurance provider.  They design and administer the specialised expat policies, ensuring the terms, flexibility, and global coverage are tailored specifically to international families.
  • GenRe is the ultimate financial backbone. As one of the world’s largest reinsurers (a Berkshire Hathaway company), GenRe fully backs Unisure’s policies. They provide the deep institutional capital that guarantees every claim can be paid, no matter what happens globally.

Together, it gives families the best of both worlds: the high-touch, personal service of a dedicated specialist who knows your name, backed by the security of a global financial powerhouse.

Advice for Families Starting Life Abroad

If I could give one piece of advice to a family who has just moved abroad and is thinking about protecting their future, it would be don’t fall for the ‘invincibility fallacy.’

Moving abroad is an exciting, transformative chapter, and it’s easy to feel untouched by the real world when you’re caught up in the adventure. But over my years in insurance, I’ve seen time and time again that none of us are bulletproof.

Remember your ‘why’. The people and the life you’re building in this new country. Protecting them shouldn’t be an afterthought.
