Family-friendly festivals in Berlin 2018

Berlin is a city where everything is possible. Berlin is a city with history. Berlin is a child-friendly city that allows the youngest family members to enjoy all it has to offer to the fullest.

Berlin is a wonderful city to explore, for toddlers, children, teenagers and adults alike.

If you are new in town you should know that you have probably landed in one of the most vibrant and international cities in Europe. It’s a hub for artists, creating  what people often refer to on the streets as a “very Berlin style”. This creativity and energy comes together in  street markets and festivals which are plentiful during the summer months.

Our friends at Nestpick have shared with us their favourite Berlin summer festivals. If you are just visiting Berlin for a couple of days or relocating for the long term, Nestpick, a meta-search specialised in apartment hunting in more than 130 cities around the world, can help you find appropriate accommodation.

When: Every Saturday and Sunday
Where: Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf at Preußenpark

If Asian food sounds like music to your ears, this is probably the place to be. Every Saturday and Sunday during the summer months, improvised chefs become vendors. This is a Thai street food festival extravaganza. The park is filled with families. Playgrounds with water and sand are set to entertain the youngest members of the family while you make a quick trip around the Asian continent.

Don’t forget to grab your picnic blanket and let the vendors do the rest. This will probably be the best Thai dish you have ever had… cooked by a spontaneous vendor on a simple gas stove in the middle of a Berlin park.

When: Sunday, August 12
Where: Ku’Damm Beach

This is definitely the place you would like to be at during the first days of August. This party is family friendly and this will be its first edition. The little ones will be able to enjoy different activities and attractions from face painting to creative workshops, while you can sit back and enjoy the incredible heat wave in your new city.

When: 17th and 18th August
Where: Am Juliusturm 64

This group was originally founded back in 1998 with the intention of allowing the little ones to discover the world through different activities. They wanted to bring all the 5 continents into a small event in order for children to discover a little bit more about the world they live in from a very young age. This event includes activities like DIY workshops, music workshops, movement and dancing from different cultures and music representing different countries. This is an extremely exciting event in the middle of the city that offer children and families the chance to ‘travel’ around the world in a matter of hours, without actually leaving the Berlin.

When: 2nd September
Where: Tierpark Berlin, Am Tierpark 125, 10319 Berlin

One for the animal lovers; this festival is organised by Berlin Zoo. Expect to see exotic creatures and expect to partake in exciting games stationed around the park. This open-air festival offers a very wide programme of activities that will keep adults and children entertained for the whole day. This is definitely the best way of saluting the summer until next year and keeping your toddlers curiosity awake during the last days of summer. Because what it a cool summer without some incredible memories to remember for the rest of the year?

When: 3rd October
Where: Am Hagenower Ring, 13059 Berlin

This kite festival is the best dose of colour in the sky you will ever experience. This festival happens the first week of October and allows children from the urban metropolis to spend some time looking at the sky and embracing the colours of all the flying kites that are left to be free casually at the same time. Apart from the mesmerising colours in the sky, the event is topped up with music and vendors selling all type of food that will make you forget that winter is around the corner.
