Located approximately 80 kms from Turin and 140 from Milan, Forte di Bard represents one of the greatest examples of an early 1800 military stronghold. The fortress is composed of three main defence stations all of which are positioned at different levels on the high rock, the highest being at 467 meters. The top of the fortress is accessible due to the external glass lifts which give visitors sensational views of the medieval village of Bard below and the surrounding areas. Inside you can find a museum, prison, shop, cafe and regular events take place throughout the year including concerts and photography and art exhibitions. Closed Mondays.

What an incredible example of engineering and architecture. The views as you are going up in the glass lifts are fantastic, but not advisable for those who are afraid of heights! (Lyn Gladwin)
