Greenwood Garden School is an international Nursery and pre-school in Rome that bases  its learning on the English national curriculum Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework for pupils aged 2-6. The school was founded in 1974 and has developed an eclectic curriculum taking inspiration from:

  • The educational theories of Jean Piaget’s stages of cognitive development
  • Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences
  • Maria Montessori’s practical life experiences
  • Daniel Goleman’s theory of emotional intelligence
  • Lev Vygotsky’s theory of play and Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD)

The school fully immerses children in the English language, which can be particularly useful for Italian or mixed-heritage families seeking options to pursue English-language education in later years. Teaching is in English by mother-tongue educators.

Greenwood Garden School also offers afternoon English lessons to alumni and external students to prepare them for the following Cambridge Exams:

  • YLE (Starters, Movers, Flyers)
  • Key English Test for Schools (KET)
  • Preliminary English Test for Schools (PET)
  • First Certificate in English for Schools (FCE)

Lessons for external Cambridge exams place from October to June, between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., for students from 6 years of age and older. Classes take place once a week and are one and a half hours to two hours long.
