Hirschgarten

January 16, 2018 | Germany, Munich

A huge restaurant and beer garden located on the outskirts of the Hirschgarten recreational park. The beer garden can seat up to 8,000 guests, making it the largest in Munich and in all of Bavaria. In the self-service area, they offer roast pork, spareribs, grilled chicken, freshly baked pretzels, as well as a large selection of salads, home-made cakes and a home-made ice creams. In accordance with good old traditions, you are also welcome to bring your own snacks with you. Traditionally, you then order beverages at one of the five beverage bars. The idyllic location adjoining a park and a deer-park makes this a popular destination for families.

We really enjoy the food here but it’s also possible to bring your own if you can find a table without a table cloth. The Hirschgarten is surrounded by a large park area where you can see deer and horned sheep. It’s really shady as the seats are all under huge chestnut trees. Kids can play in the playgrounds there (fantastic climbing wall) and also feed/pet the deer. We let ours run around the wide open fields surrounding the garden and they always have a fantastic time – especially in the wooded area in the back. My husband and I can sit and enjoy a beer (or two!) whilst the kids run riot! (Emma Coombs)
