Il Melograno provides information and support to mothers and parents during pregnancy and early infancy with special emphasis on promoting natural childbirth (including home birth) and newborn care. The association is headquartered in Rome, but there are chapters in numerous towns and cities across Italy.

I contacted the local chapter of Il Melograno in Mentana just outside Rome soon after the birth of my daughter to enquire about activities in the area. The sessions I attended were a great opportunity to swap stories and share doubts and concerns with other mums in a caring and supportive environment. The association also has a good selection of books for loan on all aspects of pregnancy, birth and early childcare and members are available for consultation on their specific area of expertise.
