Madrid Montessori is an American bilingual school in the centre of Madrid that follows the Montessori method, teaching pupils from ages 18 months – 12 years of age. The school was founded in 2006 in Chamberí and has moved to Madrid’s El Viso neighbourhood.

Curriculum

The school has an Infant Community, a Children’s House for 3-6 year olds and an Elementary Program that follows the Montessori teaching method for 6-12 year olds.
As an American school in Madrid, Madrid Montessori is recognized by both the educational authorities of the United States of America though the Middle States Association (MSA) and the Consejería de Educación de la Comunidad de Madrid. Tuition is in English with lessons in Spanish language, culture and history. The school aims for alumni to be eligible to transfer to any educational institution, either in Spain or abroad. The school serves nutritionally balanced, vegetarian lunches using seasonal and organic ingredients. They make fresh sourdough bread daily, often with the help of the children, and strive to avoid processed and sugary foods.

Montessori

The Montessori method of education was developed by an Italian physician named Maria Montessori in the early 20th century, because establishing the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) in 1929. The pedagogy views children as capable of initiating their own desire for learning in a sufficiently supportive and well-prepared environment. Teachers are often called Guides, with children leading their own learning. Grades and tests that pit students against one another to create hierarchies are discouraged.

Fees & Admissions

Tuition fees start at 533 monthly for the Infant Community (850 for full days), 795 monthly for the Children’s House (895 for full days), and 926 monthly for the Elementary Program. For a full overview of fees click here.
