The Markus Wasmeier Open Air Museum am Schliersee opened in 2007. The Bavarian ski legend wanted to use his farm museum as a way to preserve cultural heritage and maintain it for future generations. On a terrain of 60.000 square metres you will find ten historical buildings with farms from the upland. Here you can see how people lived and worked during the last centuries. On the grassland of the museum you will find old breeds of farm animals, some of them endangered along with old cultivated plants and Alpine herbs.

Take a real step back in time at this Open Air Museum just outside Schliersee. There’s plenty of space for free range children to enjoy, and countless beautiful historical buildings to explore both inside and out. Don’t miss the shoemakers, the blacksmiths and the history of electricity exhibit upstairs in the main barn. There are various seasonal attractions throughout the year, and the most beautiful Christmas Market. Highly Recommended. (Emma Coombs)
