Miniatur Wunderland

January 17, 2018 | Activities, Germany, Hamburg

Miniatur Wunderland is a model railway attraction in Hamburg and the largest of its kind in the world. The railway is located in the historic Speicherstadt district of the city. Visitors can admire different countries and even an airport in miniature size. Besides the impressive miniature version of Hamburg there is the mountainous German region of the Harz, the Austrian Alps, France, Italy, North-America and Scandinavia. The Wunderland is also educational, with information on the ‘History of civilisation’ available to learn. Visit the website to watch a brief 5 minute video to see what the attraction has to offer. It’s Hamburg’s most popular tourist attraction.

This is a fantastic day out with everything a true replica of the real life versions and amazing attention to detail. It is huge and with little ones you need almost a full day to go round (so take a picnic as the cafe is quite pricey). My kids particularly enjoyed the airport (planes take off and land) as well as the fire brigade putting out fires. Great place for kids and adults. Being one of the most visited exhibitions in Northern Germany it can get really crowded so try and avoid peak times – however whilst you queue they do offer you free drinks and ice cream!
