Montessori Village, various locations

Montessori Village is a bilingual Montessori nursery for children from 0 to 6 years old in various locations in Madrid. The schools offer unprocessed, mainly vegetarian meals and aim to encourage each child to drive their own curiosity and development.

Education

The Montessori Village Madrid runs three programmes across its 5 campuses:

  • Nido, or nest, for infants up to 18 months
  • Comunidad, for children aged 18-36 months years.
  • Casa de Niños, for children aged 3-6 years.

At the end of the Casa de Niños, children can gain a Guía Montessori certificate, and will be prepared to enter either English or Spanish education.

The main characteristics of the Montessori pedagogy are to accompany and respect the individual processes of each human being, where teachers are called Guides and children initiate their own learning. At the Casa de Niños, classes are of mixed age where older children help their younger classmates. The schools provides a largely vegetarian, organic and unprocessed diet for the children, and have recycling facilities and a herb garden onsite.

School days are from 9a.m. to 4p.m.

The Montessori method of education was developed by an Italian physician named Maria Montessori in the early 20th century, because establishing the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) in 1929. The pedagogy views children as capable of initiating their own desire for learning in a sufficiently supportive and well-prepared environment. Grades and tests that pit students against one another to create hierarchies are discouraged.
