Germany’s vibrant capital is a phenomenal place for families, with seemingly endless things to do in Berlin with kids. Known as one of the greenest cities in Europe, with around one-third of the city dedicated to green spaces and some of the largest urban parks in Germany. The largest of which, Tiergarten, is often compared to New York’s central park with over 200 hectares of space in the heart of Berlin’s Mitte neighbourhood. Boasting adventure playgrounds, sports facilities, a skate park and even an open-air cinema in the summer, the green lung of the city is a hugely popular hub for families in Berlin, offering endless outdoor nature activities for kids.

 

Outdoor Activities for Kids in Berlin

There are so many things to do in Berlin with kids outdoors. From rugged woodland to manicured gardens, there is something for everyone, with plenty of space for kids to run and explore. The city also has several beautiful swimming lakes, ideal for cooling off in the summer or hiring rowing boats. The largest of which, Müggelsee in Köpenick even has sandy beaches, with plenty of shaded picnic spots. There are many different walking or cycling routes along the city’s many interconnected waterways, ideal for cycling as a family away from any busy roads also. For older children, there are a number of aerial adventure gardens in the city, with climbing walls and zip-lines.

 

Things to Do Indoors With Kids in Berlin

There are plenty of indoor activities for kids in Berlin too. The city is home to a plethora of independent brands and spaces, including child-friendly cafes with playrooms and workshops, indoor soft play centres and baby and toddler-friendly cinema screenings. There are also several international playgroups and drop-in daycare centres for expat families in Berlin, providing endless indoor fun for toddlers and children.

 

For older children, the German capital has brilliant cultural activities, with fantastic museums on all manner of subjects, art galleries with rotating exhibits and hands-on workshops. There are also a variety of sports clubs with indoor facilities. There are also many groups for families to meet in Berlin, with weekly and monthly meet-ups for bilingual and multilingual families to connect throughout the city.
