MumAbroad Tuscany & Umbria

Tuscany is a region in central Italy that stretches from the Apennines to the Tyrrhenian Sea. Day to day life for families living in Tuscany is wonderfully varied: sandy beaches on the Etruscan Coast and the island of Elba, some of the world’s most recognisable Renaissance art and architecture in the region’s capital Florence.

A wonderful lifestyle for expats in Tuscany

Expats in Tuscany have access to beautiful landscapes and nature trails, traditional pastimes to learn about and fantastic sites to visit with activities for kids. Moving to Tuscany is especially appealing for the region’s world-famous food, while simple pasta, pizza and gelato make for family-friendly dining.

International families living in Florence

Florence is the region’s capital and one of Italy’s most fascinating places to live. It is the most populous city in Tuscany with around 400,000 inhabitants living in Florence and its most iconic sight is the Duomo, a cathedral with a terracotta-tiled dome. Many expats in Florence choose to send their children to one of the excellent local or international schools in the city and surrounding areas.

Moving to Umbria as an expat family

Moving to Umbria, one of the smallest Italian regions, is appealing for a wide variety of reasons. The only peninsular region that is landlocked, Umbria is bordered by Tuscany to the west, Marche to the east and Lazio to the south. Living in Umbria means spending time in the local hills, woodland, mountains, valleys and Medieval hill towns remarkable for their historical and artistic heritage. A growing number of international families are moving to Perugia, the capital city of the region, located about 160 kilometres north of Rome.
