Activities for Kids Frankfurt

Outdoor play activities for kids in Frankfurt include an abundance of children’s playgrounds, fountains and free activities for kids dotted throughout the city’s parks and public squares. The city also boasts two popular zoos, mini-golf courses and sports facilities like tennis and basketball courts, football pitches and other physical activities for kids outdoors.

 

There are also plentiful orchards in Frankfurt, which families can visit on the Ebbelwei-Express (Apple Cider Express)! This little train travels through the main sights in Frankfurt and the tour ends with a fresh apple juice (and cider for the grown-ups). The banks of its two rivers (the Main and the Nidda) are a peaceful haven perfect for walks and bike rides, enjoying lovely picnics surrounded by trees and summer outdoor activities for kids. There are also many family-friendly events and festivals in Frankfurt, taking place on the banks of the Main throughout the year.

 

The city has excellent outdoor activities for kids in winter too, with huge outdoor ice rinks and world famous Christmas markets in Frankfurt (the most iconic of which is located on Römerplatz during the festive period).

 

Frankfurt has many excellent activities to do with kids indoors, including one of the largest Natural History Museums in Germany, and a fantastic national film museum, uncovering the secrets of cinema with special effects demonstrations and interactive exhibits. Frankfurt is home to a brilliant science museum that is immensely popular with children, including amazing experiments and educational exhibitions teaching kids about physics, the human body and more in a fun. immersive environment. There is also a children’s museum with indoor activities for young children including play areas, hands-on displays and games, hosting regular creative workshops and activities for a range of ages and interests. The city is also home to sports clubs with indoor facilities, soft play centres and cinemas perfect for enjoying rainy days. 

 

On the last Saturday each the month, admission to almost all museums in Frankfurt is free of charge, offering great free days out and things to do indoors with children.
