Activities for Kids Munich

Munich’s historic city centre is predominantly pedestrianised and easily accessible on foot. Kids will love the famous Rathaus-Glockenspiel, a clock with mechanical puppet show which elaborately chimes multiple times a day. The Bavarian capital is known for being a wonderfully green city, with many urban parks and gardens perfect for picnics and letting off steam with fun free outdoor activities for kids. Munich’s Englischer Garten is one of the world’s largest public city parks. At over 900 acres, it is even larger than New York’s central park! Munich is also known for its iconic beer gardens, which are enormously child-friendly, with outdoor seating and adjacent playgrounds.

Slightly further afield there are plentiful corners for fun family days out, with sleepy villages and historic castles in the surrounding areas (including Neischwanstein Castle, which famously inspired Sleeping Beauty’s castle at Disneyland). There are several theme parks within a short driving distance too.

Kids will love spending rainy days in Munich exploring the Bavarian Capital’s abundance of incredible museums, many of which host special guided tours and events for families. Munich is known for being a hub of engineering and aviation, as well as being the home of several iconic German automotive brands.  Kids of all ages will enjoy the city’s world-famous science and technology museums, with fascinating exhibits and hands on play areas for children to learn in a fun, interactive setting. Most also offer creative workshops and fun indoor activities for children, tailored to a variety of ages.

Munich is also home to Europe’s biggest filmmaking centre, with iconic film props and sets, special effects demonstrations and daredevil stunt shows sharing the secrets behind popular movies. There are also great indoor play centres where kids can let off steam while parents relax over coffee. Older children can get competitive with bowling or mini golf, which also make fantastic children’s birthday party ideas.
