MumAbroad Barcelona
Barcelona is one of the most child-friendly cities in Europe, given its numerous parks, play-areas, beaches and overall outdoor lifestyle. Whatsmore, children are adored by the locals thanks to the city’s family-friendly culture and lifestyle. Catalan and Spanish are both spoken in equal measure and increasingly residents are speaking more English as the city gains its reputation as an international hub. There are numerous excellent international schools as well as reputable concertadas (state subsidised schools) and local schools, an added pull for the increasing numbers of international families choosing to relocate in one of the world’s most vibrant and progressive cities.
Sant Cugat is a very popular town for international families due to its proximity to Barcelona, good schooling and numerous green spaces. The town has the largest proportion of child population in Catalonia and therefore it is easy to meet other families in similar situations. Children are welcomed and accepted in almost every establishment from restaurants to boutique shops. Sant Cugat is a typical commuter town, well connected with Barcelona by FGC train (running every 3 minutes in rush hour, 10 minutes off peak and Sundays). It is surrounded by countryside so is also ideal for nature lovers. Walking paths and routes in Collserola (protected national park area) run right beside and within the town itself.
