Activities for Kids Granada

Granada
There are many wonderful outdoor activities for kids in Granada. The city boasts unique Medieval architecture which has been beautifully preserved. The magnificent Alhambra palace is simply spectacular, and with entrance free for under 12s, exploring the palace gardens makes for great free outdoor activities for kids. As the city is set within a valley with the Alhambra at its centre, there are many breathtaking view points to be had from the surrounding hills, with good walking routes of varying steepness for little ones and older children. Several fantastic national parks nearby also provide plenty of outdoor nature activities for kids.

The beautiful Parque Federico Lorca is a lush green oasis in the city centre, popular with families enjoying picnics and there are several adventure playgrounds and other easy outdoor activities for kids.

Granada has great year-round things to do with kids indoors, perfect for spending the day out of the hot summer sun or for entertaining kids on a rare rainy day in the city. The city is home to a popular science park, covering an enormous 70,000m2, with interactive displays and hands-on exhibits for little ones and older children. Granada is also home to a large aquarium with a panoramic “underwater” tunnel and great indoor activities for families.

There are also great workshops and holiday courses for kids in Granada, including quintessentially Andalucian flamenco lessons, arts and crafts, performing arts and other fun indoor activities for children.

Costa de Almería
This stretch of coastline in the South-East of Andalucia is home to numerous beautiful fishing villages, with many picturesque coves and sandy beaches to enjoy. Throughout the summer months most beach towns organise live music and outdoor cinemas on the beach. The many white-sand beaches are frequented less by international tourists than some better known Spanish coastal regions, which makes for lovely peaceful secluded coves, perfect for family picnics and days spent in the sea, with many watersports and other outdoor sports activities for kids available.

The breathtaking Cabo de Gata-Níjar Nature Resort is a short drive or 40 minute cycle from Almeria and has plentiful summer outdoor activities for kids, including beautiful hiking and cycling trails throughout suitable for different fitness levels and ages. The Sierra María-Los Vélez Nature Reserve is also magnificent and perfect for a fun family day out in the sunshine. The province of Almeria is home to a wide variety of historic castles.

One of Almería’s most unusual attractions is a faux wild west town built in a desert landscape, known as Mini Hollywood. Frequently used as the set of many different films, kids will love exploring its’ streets, attractions and fun outdoor activities for kids (there is also a zoo and themed swimming park).

For indoor activities, Almería is home to a variety of fascinating museums and art galleries, covering an array of subjects and historical periods from the Spanish civil war to local culture, guitars and olive oil. The Museum of Almeria has unique ancient artefacts on display dating back to the Roman Empire. There is also a popular maritime museum in Roquetas del Mar that is free to enter.  The majority of museums in the area host great indoor activities for children, workshops and guided tours tailored to different age groups.

There is a popular aquarium and a great local theatre that puts on shows for children every few weeks, with family friendly shows throughout the year. Older children and teens will be fascinated by some of the unique historic and archeological sites in the city, including a warren of bomb shelters dating back to the Civil War.

One of the most spectacular and unusual sights in Almería is the ice age Cueva de Nerja, a stunning underground cave, that often hosts cultural events, dance shows, music festivals and other creative things to do indoors with children.
