Palmengarten Botanical Gardens, Frankfurt

The Palmengarten is one of two botanical gardens in Frankfurt. It is located in the Westend-Süd district and open all year round. There are various greenhouses with different climates from all over the world, the pond full of fish and turtles where you can rent a rowing boat, a small railway train for the kids that crosses the grounds and adorable ducks that are free to wander around the park.

We always go in summer as its not so exciting in the winter. The kids love running around the gardens and tire themselves out in all the free space – there are lots of shady places to play as well. There is a playground (but you need to pay to go in). We always take a picnic and end up there for hours with friends enjoying the beautiful gardents. If you stay long enough there is a great light show at night. (Jenny Drake)
