Ristorante Grotte del Funaro, Orvieto

December 18, 2017 | Italy, Tuscany & Umbria

A place with a long history, unique in its kind. Situated in the heart of the cliff of Orvieto, it was first used as an Etruscan cave, then rope making workshop, and is now a restaurant where you will find good quality products and excellent wines from the well stocked cellar. There is a veranda for outside dining in the summer. Closed Mondays.

Older kids and teens will love descending into the “grotto”—a large underground cantina with cavernous dining rooms. Fare is typical Umbrian, and includes pizzas. (Elizabeth Heath)
