Safari Madrid

October 2, 2017 | Activities, Madrid, Spain

Just 50 kilometres from Madrid, there is a real piece of the African Savannah. Inaugurated in June 1973, Safari Madrid is an animal park whose main attraction is to see animals running free. There are rhinoceroses, giraffes, elephants, hippos, zebras, bison, black bears, papiones, lions and tigers. There’s also a Mini Zoo, aviary, reptile house, insect house, and an opportunity to see birds of prey. Other activities include go-karting, a giant slide, trampolines and a swimming pool.

Unfortunately, the only way to get there is by car, around 40 minutes from Madrid, but well worth the effort as its a great day out and very reasonably priced. The animals giraffes, camels, zebras, bears, rhinoceroses, monkeys and more live in semi-liberty, in surroundings that imitate their natural habitats. An exciting highlight is the daily lion taming show. In summer there is a swimming pool – with a large slide – where you can cool off. (Anne Lennon)
