July 5, 2024 | Blog, Holidays & Travel

School is officially out for summer and Specsavers Ópticas have launched their Summer Photography Competition for budding photographers in Spain aged between 6 and 17 years old.

With some brilliant prizes up for grabs, Specsavers Ópticas invite children and young people in Alicante, Malaga, and Mallorca to capture the essence of their summer holidays in photos. MumAbroad founder Carrie Frais will also take part as one of the competition judges.

This creative competition encourages 6 to 17 year olds to pick up their cameras and take photos that truly reflect the joy and excitement of the summer. Winners in the Junior and Senior categories will receive a €50 Amazon voucher and a pair of sunglasses of their choice. Their winning photos will also be featured on social media and in the press.

“We want to encourage youngsters to get out and about and hone their photography skills this summer,” explains Chantelle Hayward from Specsavers Ópticas Calpe. “Studies show that getting outside when we’re young and enjoying time in the sunshine can protect against myopia, as well as being good for physical and mental health, so we want to encourage less screen time and more summer fun in the sun.”

MumAbroad Founder joins the competition judging panel

MumAbroad founder Carrie Frais believes the competition is an excellent way to engage kids during the long summer break. She explains,  Encouraging kids to take photos during the summer holidays not only sparks their creativity but also helps them capture and cherish memories. Photography allows them to see the world from different perspectives, develop storytelling skills, and build a visual journal of their adventures, creating lasting keepsakes of their childhood.”

Carrie is really looking forward to seeing all of the creative entries and we would love the MumAbroad community in Alicante, Malaga, and Mallorca to take part and capture their summer adventures.

The competition has been featured on The Leader, Vega Bajada Digital and La Diversiva. Follow Specsavers on Facebook and Instagram for more updates. Read the full T&Cs here (in Spanish).
