This popular holiday resort and former fishing village is situated on the west side of Lago Maggiore and has become a hotspot for tourism due to its central yet panoramic position. The town is approximately one and a half hours drive from Turin, and Milan and just over an hour from Como. It has wonderful views of the Borromeo Islands. All three islands are enchanting, with regular boat trips to and from the islands and mainland. The main town itself has a beautiful promenade which is filled with hotels and there are many bars, shops and restaurants filling the narrow streets and alleys. There are a number of other interesting places to visit whilst in Stresa including Villa Pallavicino and Park, Giardino Alpinia and Mottarone which can be reached by the fenicular railway departing from Stresa Lido. So much to see and do here and it’s such a beautiful town. The islands are a must if you visit Stresa but it can be very overcrowded in the summer months so there’s often a lot of queueing and waiting around for the boats. However, I can’t wait to go back again. (Lyn Gladwin)
