Educational Adventures is a Barcelona-based consultancy helping families navigate the process of applying to English-taught university programmes across Europe and the UK. Founded by two experienced British educators, Matt Kelly and Joe Goodman, the company grew out of their shared passion for guiding students towards life-changing academic opportunities.

We spoke with Co-Founder Matt to learn more about how Educational Adventures supports families and the services they offer. 

Why are more families choosing to study in Europe rather than the UK or US?

There’s been a huge rise in high-quality, English-taught degrees across Europe, particularly in countries such as the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and Scandinavia. Many offer excellent academic standards, lower tuition fees and a truly international experience, making them increasingly attractive to globally-minded families.

What has the effect of Brexit been on university choices?

Brexit has certainly changed the landscape. UK universities are now significantly more expensive for EU students, as they no longer qualify for ‘home fee’ status or UK student loans. As a result, many families are looking beyond the UK and discovering excellent English-taught degrees across Europe.

What kind of support do you offer students and parents?

We provide personalised guidance through every step; from choosing the right courses and destinations to managing applications, interviews, and statement writing. We also advise on alternative pathways like gap years or UK school placements for those who want to strengthen their academic profile.

How is your approach different from other agencies or consultants?

We’re educators first and foremost and we offer a personalised service. With over 20 years’ experience in British schools, we understand students; you won’t just be a number with us. Our focus is on finding the right fit academically, personally, and culturally, not simply filling applications.

What types of students do you typically work with?

Most of our students attend international, British-curriculum or bilingual schools in Spain and across Europe. They’re ambitious, curious, and often seeking expert guidance to explore options beyond the traditional routes.

What are three top tips for students researching higher education options?

• Look beyond rankings. League tables can be useful, but they don’t tell the whole story. Students should consider the learning environment, teaching style, and campus culture that suit them best.
• Research the course, not just the country. Two universities might offer a ‘Business’ degree, but the content, structure, and specialisations can be completely different. Look closely at modules, teaching hours, internships, and assessment styles.
• Start early and stay organised. Each country has its own deadlines, documentation, and systems (UCAS in the UK, Studielink in the Netherlands). Begin research in Year 11 or early Year 12 to avoid last-minute stress.
