The British School of Barcelona (BSB) is one of the top international schools in Spain, teaching the English national curriculum including A Levels, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and with the possibility of convalidation with the Spanish national Bachillerato qualification. The school teaches pupils ages 2-18 across four campuses in and around the Barcelona area.

The British School of Barcelona has been rated as Outstanding in every category in latest inspection as a British School Overseas (BSO). This is the highest recognition that an international educational centre can receive and grades BSB as one of the best British schools in the world.
This places BSB as one of the only five schools in Spain that are currently recognised as outstanding by the English Department for Education (DfE), and the only school in Catalunya to have gained this prestigious accreditation from the British Government. The inspection highlights the quality of education, the strong sense of community among staff, students and families, and the global educational standards of our school.
The school was founded in 1958. The school has four campuses, and a fifth currently under development:
- BSB Castelldefels teaching Nursery to Year 11 (ages 3-16)
- BSB Sitges teaching Pre-Nursery to Year 6 (ages 2-11)
- BSB Nexus teaching Years 12-13 (ages 16-18)
- BSB City Esperança Campus (teaching ages 3-5) and Lucà (teaching ages 6-18)
- BSB Maresme, opening in September 2026 in Cabrera de Mar, will serve students aged 3-18, initially enrolling ages 3-9 and expanding to include Secondary education from September 2027. Once fully established, it will be a two-form entry school with a capacity of approximately 700 students.

Curriculum
The British School of Barcelona delivers the British curriculum from Early Years through to Primary and Secondary. When students reach Pre-University, they have the option to take the A Levels or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP). This curriculum choice is available at the BSB Nexus campus in Castelldefels. At BSB City the focus is exclusively on the IBDP pathway, building on the school’s track record of excellence as an IB World School in Castelldefels. This is reflected in an outstanding pass rate, with scores exceeding the world average every year.
At both key stages 4 & 5 the school helps students to convalidate their studies to obtain Spanish national qualifications the ESO (Educación Secundaria Obligatoria) and the Bachillerato.
To obtain the Bachillerato, the school offers required Spanish and Catalan-language classes alongside a student’s desired course of pre-university study. The school also prepares students for applications to Spanish universities through specific tests required (PCE or Pruebas de Competencias Específicas) as part of the compulsory Spanish university access exams (EBAU or Evaluación del Bachillerato para el Acceso a la Universidad). Academic results are strong for a non-selective school, with 48% of A Level grades awarded at A*-A in 2025 and 98% success for the IB contingent, with 50% students scoring 38+ points across all their subjects, out of a total of 45 and an average 34.4 average point score (30.58 World Average). Location
BSB Castelldefels and BSB Nexus are located in the town of Castelldefels, a 30-minute drive south of Barcelona city centre, and a 10-minute drive from the Barcelona-El Prat international airport.
BSB Sitges is located a few minutes’ drive from the Sitges seafront, and is a 45-minute drive from Barcelona city south.
BSB City is located in the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district of Barcelona city, and is a 20-minute drive from the city centre with public transport links.
BSB Maresme will be located in Cabrera de Mar, just 30 minutes from Barcelona. The Maresme region provides an ideal setting for education, offering a unique mix of natural beauty, a healthy lifestyle, and close proximity to the city.
Fees & Admissions
School fees start at €8,130 annually for Nursery and Reception, and rise to around €20,050 for Pre-University tuition depending on the curriculum pathway and campus chosen. The British School of Barcelona is non-selective, but has an admissions policy that includes different requirements depending on the year group applied. These may include submitting an application document including previous school reports, assessment of a child’s age and level of English, and offer of a place subject to available space in appropriate year group. BSB Summer School
The British School of Barcelona runs summer programmes across its campuses BSB City, BSB Castelldefels, and BSB Sitges for five weeks (end of June and July) and there’s something for everyone aged 3 to 16. Open to both BSB students and children from other schools, they offer the following options:
