September 9, 2017 | Activities, Catalonia, Maresme & Girona, Spain

The Via Verdes are cyclist and walkers routes following the trails of disused railway tracks. They run throughout Spain and there are three in Catalunya. The one is Girona has various different routes but the ideal route for families is from Girona to LLagostera and also from Llagostera to Sant Feliu de Guixols, which in total is around 39 kilometres. You can do one on one day and another on another day or stay overnight to make a weekend of it.

This is a great family day out. We took our own bikes to the start of the Via Verde in Girona and cycled the 18 kilometres with no complaints from an 8 or 10 year old en route. We went through some great countryside and quirky village. We had our lunch in Cassa de La Selva and organized for a special taxi to pick us up at LLagostera to take us back to the cars. You can also hire bikes in Girona fairly easily.(Carrie Frais)
