Women in Business in Munich

Munich was rated the world’s most liveable city by the Monocle’s Quality of Life Survey 2018.  With an extensive and fascinating history, green spaces, cosmopolitan atmosphere and desirable lifestyle, it is no surprise that a host of international residents have chosen to call Germany’s third biggest city home.

The Bavarian capital is known across Germany and internationally as a major hub not only for finance and technology, but the arts, culture and a great deal of innovation. The city’s fast growing startup scene is exciting and diverse, making Munich one of the top cities for digital entrepreneurs in Europe. Located close to Switzerland, Austria and France, Munich is home to the second busiest airport in Germany and is extremely well-connected by high speed rail.

There are an increasing number of women in business in Munich, with many success stories of women and mum-owned businesses in the Bavarian start-up scene. In recent years, the city has made real strides in improving access to childcare and support for local and expat mum entrepreneurs in Munich. More and more women are choosing to work from home, with online business ideas for mums making a healthier work-life balance for busy mums more accessible than ever. This shift has certainly been a catalyst for change in the city, with a cultural movement towards more support for working mums. There are several non-profit organisations specifically tailored towards the needs of female founders of start-ups and women entrepreneurs in Munich.
