Yatai, Sitges

August 29, 2017 | Catalonia, Sitges, Spain

Yatai is a Japonese tapas takeaway. It is the personal project of an experienced Japanese chef, his brother who lives in Barcelona and a young Catalan illustrator. Lovers of Japanese and the Mediterranean culture, they decided to create the first Japanese Take Away restaurant at Sitges. Some of the Yatai’s specialties are Takoyaki, tasty balls stuffed with octopus cooked in iron plates with semi-circular holes, Okonomiyaki which is similar to a pizza cooked on the grill and made with vegetables and Yakisoba, noodles with vegetables. The open kitchen means all the dishes are prepared and cooked in front of the customers. Closed on a Monday.

Yatai (屋台) is a small Japanese car, which typically sells ramen or other hot meals. The name literally means ‘shop stall.’ “From the passion of Kenzo Koketzu, an experienced Japanese cook and his family, this small but cozy establishment has always worked with the same philosophy “cook from the heart“.

The bright waving cats in the window will keep little ones amused whilst you peruse the menu! (Leigh)
